Days 15, 16, & 17 - Weekend and Farewell Dinner

6.30.23 to 7.2.23 Friday and Saturday we had no school, which meant we could spend time with our families and friends. The previous days were not filled with much so it was decided to consolidate three days together and focus on the Farewell Dinner on July 2nd.  That Sunday, we spent our last full day in Stuttgart with our host family. Most of us spent the day washing and packing clothes while also joining our families in activities.  In the evening, we made our way to the vineyards for our farewell dinner. It was a beautiful setting at the house of one of the German exchange students. After having some food and sparkling water, we handed out “awards” to the host families and sang a few songs for them. We sang a German version of the song  “Country Roads” that we wrote and the German class favorite, “Schnappi.” It was a lot of fun and a great last evening together.

Day 14 - Tübingen and Sports

6.29.23 In the morning we attended school with our exchange partners and then met for homeroom. We spent homeroom painting bags to take home via stencils or by freehand.  Afterward, we embarked on Tübingen by train with quite a few of the German students.  The first thing we did was make our way down to the Neckar River to go punting. We took two long boats down the river with tour guides at the stern of the boat, pushing us along with long wooden poles. It was quite fun and relaxing… until someone started a splash war. The tour guides told us a poem and a little bit about Tübingen College. They even let a few of us try steering the boat. Once we were back on land, we explored the streets of Tübingen.  We left Tübingen and headed to Obertürkheim for a traditional Germany vs USA soccer match. We went into the game with full confidence in our abilities (plus Austin’s flawless game plan) and scored the first goal of the match! We did take second with the final score of 7-3 b...
