Arrival in Germany and Day 1

6.15.23 & 6.16.23

We arrived at Frankfurt Airport at 7 am German time on the 15th of June. After barely sleeping on the long 7-hour flight from Boston and the 1.5-hour commute from Frankfurt to Koblenz, our whole group was (to put it lightly) pretty beat. However, we pushed through the jet lag and had a wonderful day full of activities.

After dropping our luggage off at the hotel, we set off to explore the Marketplatz filled with bustling people and busy shops. We then walked along the historical Rhine River where we saw the Deutsche Eck, also known as German Corner. It’s the corner of the land where the river Rein and Mosel combine. There is a massive statue of Wilhelm I on a horse there as well, and it weighs in at over 60 tons! After that, we took a gondola ride up to visit Ehrenbreitstein Fortress: a fort that overlooks part of the river.

We trekked back down to the town and split into groups to find dinner, which ranged from authentic Schnitzel (basically a breaded pork patty) to Brautwust to fresh garden salads. And what dinner would be complete without dessert? We all ended up at an ice cream shop where many of us were able to have Spaghetti Eis for the first time. It is basically ice cream that is served to look like (you guessed it) spaghetti. With full stomachs, tired legs, and over 30 hours of no sleep, we returned to the hotel where we spent our first night in Germany.

Danke und bis zum nächsten Mal!
