Day 5 - Wiggy and Esslingen
6.20.23
Today, everyone trekked to school to participate in classes once again. In class, we were able to engage in some of the activities and answer some questions. A few students also had the chance to do presentations which were amusing. After classes, we met in the homeroom once again to play cards. Some even wandered into town for a snack.
At 11:20 we took an S-Bahn to the historic city of Esslingen. We strolled around the old city with one of the German teachers as a tour guide. We past Esslingen’s Stadtkirche (city church) which exhibited two bell towers. The bridge-like feature between the two towers is actually two metal bars holding the towers in place.
We also passed a restaurant that was the former building of a hospital during the 1900s. And of course, we viewed Esslingen’s beautiful old Rathaus (city hall). This building was where the mayor used to live but it is now used for venues such as weddings. The face of the building contains a clock and an astronomical clock.
Next, we hiked up to Esslingen’s “castle” as the people call it. It is actually only a piece of the wall that protected the castle and city. We had the chance to walk through the wall and peer down over the vineyards and the housetops of Esslingen’s beautiful city.
After, we walked down the 313-step staircase back into the city, stopping for some ice cream and other goods. Then we headed back to the school we and we each made our way home or went on to our own activities.
